A strong visual theme or image can be a blessing or a burden, it all depends on utilisation and understanding. Our collaboration with established artist management company Cake Artist Management explored that very idea. Playful, bold and recognisable, Cake already had a strong and dedicated personality prior to our pairing.
When we were asked to create a visual identity that could be used across a range of media, our first task was to balance and refine the company’s energetic, playful tone. Their signature Cake imagery was strong in style but we aimed to give it the weight it needed to be a solid visual asset.
Maintaining the quirky personality
We worked to maintain Cake’s quirky edge and personality. Instead of relying too heavily on the typical Cake motif, we aimed to weave it into the visual ID in a meaningful, rooted way.
Familiar, fun and on-brand
Creating the unmistakable cake pattern and choosing a distinct colour palette played a key role in representing character and embodying a fun, loving persona of the brand, and Battenberg cake seemed to hold these qualities.
The cake serves a multitude of purposes. Used as a pattern, icon or a simple divider, it gives the audience an element they are familiar with, and by utilizing this mix of nostalgia, with a quirky style, we created a highly recognizable brand component the users can connect to.
The visual language developed for the brand has been applied successfully to the digital aspects of the brand project, elevating Cake Artist Management and allowing it to become an individual platform that stands out in the sea of traditional artist management companies.
